Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT)

Building stronger, safer, better dancers. This strength and conditioning class trains dancers with a focus on ballet technique.  PBT ensures students understand how the depth of training muscle memory equates to success in achieving your personal best in dance technique. It enhances flexibility, using dance medicine balls and exercises to prevent injury. This program improves students understanding of core stability, weight placement, and alignment. This training program benefits ALL dancers not just ballet dancers. Our classes are taught by certified PBT teacher Allison McCoy. Private training sessions are also available.

Ballet Training Program

Ballet classes are divided into levels based on mastery of a set of skills according to a well-rounded classical curriculum. Students are evaluated at least twice a year based on benchmarks in Technique, Artistry/Presence, Musicality, Focus, and Vocabulary. The ballet program’s training creates versatile dancers that excel in technique. We also prepare our dancers for summer programs, college pre-screens, and company auditions. Training begins as early as 3 years old and continues to pre-professional.

Drop-In Ballet

A rigorous ballet class for dancers who meet the requirements for levels III-IV. This once-a-week class is a great compromise for students who want the highest level of training but are not able to commit to the training program. According to industry standards, 3 hours per week ballet training is the minimum time required to ensure proper technique for all dancers regardless of discipline.

Dance for Musical Theatre

FOOT IN THE DOOR: Youth & Adult

Eliminate the stress of an audition and become audition ready! This weekly class trains actors for musical theatre audition — cold readings, monologue selection/performance, vocal performance, song selection, dance call practice. Once a month, we bring int an accompanist to prepare for live vocal auditions! Youth Class is designed for elementary (age 9 is recommended) and middle school students. Teen/Adult classes designed for high school students and adults.

Musical Theatre Tap/Jazz: Youth & Adult

This class alternates between tap and jazz each week. The class trains students to learn choreography quickly and to execute with proper technique for musical theatre auditions. DCT recommends all Musical Theatre students take additional ballet, tap, and jazz classes to always be prepared. Don't wait to prepare for an audition at the last minute. It causes stress, affects your performance, and is not how the pros make it. These drop-in classes make it easy for any working performer to train in between shows.

Musical Theatre Jazz/Ballet

This class alternates between ballet and jazz each week. There is no such thing as a musical theatre dancer. Dancers in musical theatre are well-rounded, trained dancers in multiple genres. This class allows for crucial ballet training and jazz. Whether you are brushing up on skills or just starting—this class complements the other Musical Theatre classes.

Giordano Jazz

Ever heard of JAZZ HANDS? The origin of this iconic move is an essential part of BROADWAY or THEATRICAL jazz. Gus Giordano was one of the founding fathers who applied the discipline of ballet to create jazz expression for theatre. You probably already know these techniques or have seen them—you just didn't know they were Gio Jazz—isolated movements of particular body parts, precise, and unconventional shoulder placement with powerful jumps and turns. Our instructor Allison McCoy studied in Chicago at the Giordano Dance School and is now bringing this incredible technique to our dancers!

Tap

DCT is an ear training tap school (huffing or rhythm tap). Barb Cullen has mastered the art of teaching. In addition to the Musical Theatre classes, we have tap classes for youth, teens, and adults.

Hip Hop

This discipline is essential for well-rounded, versatile dancers. DCT hip hop is performance-based, focusing on isolations and footwork. This is not your dance team hip hop. Instructor Brandon Son offers classes for youth and adult beginners, as well as advanced classes for teens and youth.  We even have a Lil’Hip Hop option for our Level I dancers.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance combines elements of ballet, jazz, and hip hop to reflects current styles and attitudes. It stems from classical ballet. Though Modern dance can be used synonymously with contemporary in some circles—contemporary dance is a melding and reflection of what is current and is not as grounded specific in style.  We offer beginner and advanced level classes for teens and adults. We also offer a Contemporary-Hip Hop combo class for our Level II and III training program dancers.

Modern

Modern is the tails side of the coin for ballet dancers — crucial for any ballet training. More grounded than Contemporary styles, this discipline has varying techniques and important styles developed by some of the most influential choreographers of the century. A must for versatile dancers. Our instructor Sheila Zeng introduces different techniques and styles to help dancers increase their knowledge of the discipline as well as the technique.

Latin/Afro Cuban

Selen Wilson brings a cultural whirlwind to this class. The class introduces the style and music and focuses on technique and performance. A fun exciting class!
